An All Time Great That May Be A Little Under Appreciated

After the successful season the Maze and Blue had on the hardwood, people are excited in regards to the future of the Michigan basketball program, which got me to thinking. Who are some of the best all time players to wear a Wolverines basketball jersey. One came to mind that I think a lot of Wolverine fans forget about and that’s Rudy Tomjanovich.

Tomjanovich, who went on the have a huge amount of success in the NBA as a head coach, played his collegiate basketball at the University of Michigan. After being born and raised in Hamtramck, Michigan, Tomjanovich enrolled at U-M in 1967. In his four seasons, Tomjanovich was named to the 1st Big Ten team twice and was an All-American in 1970. But what stands out most about his time in Ann Arbor is the Wolverines career rebounding leader spot that he still holds today.

10 Big Stadiums

It’s early June, which means the college football season is only two months away so to feed our football appetites, let’s take a look at the ten biggest college football stadiums in the country.

Coming in at No. 10 is the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. The stadium does not have a home team that uses it but the Cotton Bowl is home to the annual Texas-Oklahoma Red River Shoot Game and obviously the Cotton Bowl. The stadium holds 92,200 fans.

No. 9 on the list is Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Beilen will stay busy this summer

Wolverines head coach John Beilein has been named to serve as a coach for the USA Basketball's U19 World Championship and World University Games team trials this June in Colorado Springs, Colorado

A Rare Highlight In A Forgettable Season

Unless you’ve been living underneath a rock for the last nine months, you know the Wolverines went 3-9 last season which included a loss to Toledo. Through the lumps the Maze and Blue took last season, there were a few high points to hang your hat on as a Wolverine’s fan.

Big Ten impact felt in first round of NFL Draft

In last weekend’s NFL Draft, four Big Ten players were taken in the firs round, which is impressive considering everyone else in the country says the Big Ten was the worst major conference in college football last season. Here’s a look at who was taken.

Aaron Maybin…DE…Penn State (6’4, 249 lbs.). The Buffalo Bills took Maybin 11th overall after his stand out season last year where he had 12 sacks and 20 tackles for a loss for the Nitnany Lions.

Malcolm Jenkins…CB…Ohio State (6’0, 204 lbs.) Jenkins was taken 14th overall by the New Orleans Saints and is expected to start immediately.

Forcier turns some heads in Spring Game, WR Roundtree gains his focus

Tate Forcier entered the Spring Game with most of the 50,000 fans at Michigan Stadium eye’s glued to him. By the end of the game, all 100,000 eyes were on Forcier. Running the first team offense, Forcier orchestrated a scoring drive on his first series, capped off by a touchdown run. Forcier was very modest about his success after the game.

The other Michigan school and North Carolina

After watching the North Carolina Tar Heels slaughter the Michigan State Spartans to win their fifth National Championship on Monday night, it reminded me of something that happened 16 years ago. That was when the Tar Heels played the other Michigan school for the National Title.

The Tar Heels headed into this game by defeating Kansas in the National Semi Final  but not before disposing of East Carolina, Rhode Island, Arkansas and Cincinnati on their way to the Final Four. The Wolverines defeated Kentucky in overtime in the other National Semi Final match up after defeating Coastal Carolina, UCLA, George Washington and Temple on their road to the Final Four..

The 2000 Orange Bowl

It still stands as one of the best Bowl games of the last decade as the No. 6 Alabama Crimson Tide battled the No. 8 Michigan Wolverines. Let’s take a look at what makes this such a historic game.

The first quarter was a defensive struggle as neither team was able to put any points on the board. Both teams saw lengthy drives come to an end with punts or turnovers.

The Crimson Tide got the scoring started in the second quarter when Shaun Alexander scored on a five yard run. Ryan Pflugner added the extra point to put Alabama up, 7-0.

A few minutes later, Alexander reached the end zone again, this time from six yards out. Pflugner added the P.A.T. to put the Crimson Tide up, 14-0

The Wolverines finally broke the goose egg before halftime as Tom Brady connected with David Terrell for a 27 yard pass.

End of the Season Grades

The 2008-2009 basketball season has come to an end for the Wolverines as they were bounced by the Oklahoma Sooners in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Never the less, the Maze and Blue had their best season in a decade as they finished 21-14. Let’s run through the team and give out those final grades.
