U-M Football News and Notes

The annual Fan Day for the Michigan football program is less than a month away. Player and members of the coaching staff will be scattered around at Al Glick Field House, Oosterbaan Field House and the practice field behind Schembechler Hall. The free of charge meet and greet/autograph session with the 2009 Wolverine football team is slated to run from 1-3 p.m. on Sunday, August 23. Head coach Rich Rodriguez will be stationed at Al Glick Field house and will the sign one item per person. The location of all other Wolverine team members will be determined.

At the Big Ten Media Day in Chicago, the Ohio State Buckeyes were slated by the media members as the preseason favorites to win the Big Ten, followed by the Penn State Nitany Lions and Michigan State Spartans.

Speaking of preseason rankings, Michigan is not ranked in the top 25 in the Athlon or Sporting News pre season polls. Here are the Big Ten teams ranked in the top 25 of these two highly touted polls:

Athlon
Sporting News
Ohio State #5
Ohio State # 9
Penn State # 7
Penn State # 12
Michigan State # 20

Iowa # 23

Finally, something on the softer side, Rich Rodriguez and Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel worked together recently.  At the Big Ten Media Day last week, Rodriguez and Tressel shot a public service announcement for the American Football Coaches Association’s “Coach to Cure Muscular Dystrophy” weekend that will take place at all Big Ten games on the weekend of September 26.
